In roughly 60-62 AD, the apostle Paul was under house arrest in Rome, waiting to defend himself before the emperor. While there he wrote letters to churches and individuals that were close to his heart, and four of these—letters to the Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians and Philemon—would find their way into the New Testament. He could never imagine that nearly 2000 years later they would still be cherished for their remarkable teaching and priceless personal insight.

The letters to the Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon each have a distinctive purpose and quality,  but throughout them all, Paul is concerned with helping his fellow-believers to think correctly. To understand truth and to set their minds on it. Thankfully, these letters were preserved by the grace of God throughout centuries and are available to us today, because how we think is still so critical to how we live. Perhaps now more than ever.
