Have you ever been called as a witness? What does the word imply? It obviously means telling the truth, but it may also involve relating personal experience, sharing a unique perspective, or presenting hard evidence.
The idea of being a “witness” is central to the book of Acts. Luke, after writing his “orderly account” of the life of Christ, now begins the tale of what happened next. Jesus commanded those who had seen and heard to take their stories and share them with the rest of the world. He sums up the theme of the book in Acts 1:8 with His statement, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” This is the heartbeat of what Luke has recorded, and the reason we are here today. The witness of believers throughout the centuries makes up the story of the Church. The witness we give today will write the Church’s next chapter.
